Electric Vehicles EVs

The Town of Philipstown has partnered with Sustainable Hudson Valley and several dealerships in the area to make it easier and more affordable to switch to an electric vehicle.  We are putting on test drive events and electric vehicle car shows so people can learn more about the benefits of switching.

Sustainable Hudson Valley put together a great Q and A about electric and hybrid cars.

According to Town Supervisor Richard Shea “The benefits of owning an electric vehicle are why you see so many people switching over. Lower cost of operation, no petroleum based fuels and saving the planet for our children is why it makes perfect sense. I look forward to my next truck being an EV. Once you have the information you will see why an electric vehicle is a smart choice.”

EV owners can access New York’s Drive Clean Rebate, discounts on tolls, and a federal tax credit.  Lower operating costs – typically around $1.00 per gallon equivalent.

We are keeping track of how many electric and plug-in hybrids are purchased in Philipstown.  Please email us if you purchased one from July 2021 onward.

Smart Home Energy

Philipstown will take part in NYSERDA’s Clean Heating and Cooling Communities Program, a program that will help local home and business owners in Philipstown NY lower energy bills, increase energy efficiency, and keep their properties comfortable year-round with clean heating and cooling technologies. The technologies include air-source heat pumps and ground-source heat pumps.

“By working closely with the Philipstown Climate Smart Task Force to raise awareness about the benefits of these technologies, we can drive higher rates of adoption among the residents and businesses,” said  Campaign Director, Bonnie Hagen. “Clean heating and cooling technologies offer numerous benefits including lower monthly energy bills, increased homeowner value, and improved air quality, and this program will help unlock these benefits for Philipstown residents.”
